Self Help and care are about taking reasonable steps that will help you cope with both short-term and long-term effects of trauma.

Physical and behavioural self-care

After experiencing trauma, it is important to maintain a healthy and strong body. To ensure you feel physically healthy you need a regular sleep pattern so that your brain and body are well rested. Factors that can help this include; a well-balanced diet, exercise or physical activities, mindfulness and wellbeing.

Emotional self-care

Emotional self-care is important to a positive outlook. Finding time to engage with close friends can help reduce feelings of loneliness and fear. Alternatively, you may choose to have a special place that makes you feel grounded and safe. Some people find it useful to write a diary or use meditation and relaxation to help them think more positively.
